A sound knowledge of driving theory will help you, and others, survive to enjoy safe driving for life - passing the theory test is the first stage in this process. The theory test teaches you the rules of the road and what you can hope for from other road users.

There are two parts to the theory test: 40 multiple choice questions which require learned knowledge; and a hazard perception test which is a virtual drive by computer. To pass this part of the test you will need to apply the hazard awareness skills you are taught during your practical lessons.

At Clearway we offer a fully structured theory training programme - which means our instructors will teach you everything you need to know to pass both parts of the theory test. This training will be carried out on a one-to-one basis either in the car, or at the Clearway School of Motoring office.

However, learning driving theory from books alone is not always easy that’s why Clearway also offers computer based theory training in our purpose-built classroom, Pupils can also access our resources on-line to aid their study and many find this a much easier and enjoyable way to learn. If you have access to a multi-media PC you could also invest in a Theory Training cd-rom to further help the learning process.

Your Clearway instructor will advise you on the best theory test resources on the market, including driving textbooks books and cd-rom packages, and these can be purchased from the Clearway office, or on-line.

In the theory test there are more questions on certain topics such as safety margins, hazard awareness, vulnerable road users, vehicle handling, motorway rules, rules of the road, and road & traffic signs. So it makes sense to ensure that your knowledge of these topics is strong.

Practising mock tests enables you to improve your score so why not try our free on-line theory test? Remember, you have to score at least 43 out of 50 questions correctly to pass.
